International cooperation: representatives from Mauritania’s Civil Security Service visit the Principality

The Mauritanian General Delegation for Civil Security and Crisis Management (DGSCGC) was invited to Monaco from 15 to 19 December 2025, as part of the long-standing civil security partnership between the two countries, in the latest example of the close collaboration between the emergency services in Monaco and Mauritania.

Following a decision to extend the partnership until at least 2027, representatives from the DGSCGC travelled to Monaco to take part in equipment demonstrations and operational exercises by Monegasque Fire and Emergency Service. The challenges posed by building fires were among the key subjects tackled during the visit.

Major General Abou El Maaly El Hady Sidi Ould Amar, General Delegate for Civil Security and Crisis Management, also met with the Monegasque Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, and the Minister of Interior, Mr Lionel Beffre, to discuss future joint initiatives.

Monaco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has been supporting the Mauritanian Civil Security Service’s civil protection and emergency relief work for over twenty-five years. The partnership benefits from the expertise of Colonel Varo, Commander of Monaco’s Military Force, technical support from the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service led by Lieutenant-Colonel Yvrard, and the active involvement of Monaco’s Consul in Mauritania, Mr Aly Gueladio Kamara.

Among other things, the collaboration between the two countries has helped deliver three new fire and rescue stations in Nouakchott, doubling coverage of the capital city, along with the creation of a sea rescue brigade to monitor the beaches.

A team of fourteen local trainers has also been set up, allowing Mauritania to train new recruits, while the country’s disaster response system has been bolstered with additional equipment and resources.
