Monaco Launches its Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg

On the occasion of the first meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe chaired by Monaco, held on 20 May 2026 in Strasbourg, Ms Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, presented the thematic priorities that the Principality will promote over the next six months: the protection of women, the rights of children and young people, support for the European system for the protection of human rights, the fight against organised crime, sport, as well as cooperation and the development of concrete responses to contemporary challenges.
The day was marked by several events highlighting Monaco’s Presidency: a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of the Organisation; a musical performance by Stella ALMONDO, a young Monegasque pianist, in the foyer of the Council of Europe; a ceremony on the forecourt of the Council of Europe in the presence of the Secretary General; the inauguration of a tram bearing the colours of Monaco’s Presidency; and a performance by La Palladienne in Strasbourg’s Town Hall Square, where the flag of the Principality was hoisted.
All Monegasque institutions are fully engaged and will actively contribute to the Presidency programme until 10 November 2026. In the coming weeks, numerous events will take place with the participation of the Secretary of State for Justice and members of the Prince’s Government, focusing on the thematic priorities referred to above.
A cultural programme will also be presented over the next six months in order to promote the excellence of Monaco’s cultural offering to the Strasbourg public.
In her capacity as Chair of the Committee of Ministers, Ms Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ reiterated the central role of the Council of Europe in protecting human rights, upholding the rule of law and strengthening democracy.
Alongside her, H.E. Mr Gabriel REVEL, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, supported during this six-month period by Mr Gabriel CHABERT, Deputy Permanent Representative, Ms Margaux GIRARDIN, Deputy Permanent Representative, and Mr Ghiwane BOUMEDIENE, Legal Adviser, together with the teams of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, in particular Ms Chrystel CHANTELOUBE, Principal Secretary, Mr Florian BOTTO, Adviser, and Ms Camille GABRIELI, Administrative Officer, oversee the day-to-day progress of the work carried out in support of the Presidency.
