Thursday 12th January 2023, over 500 pupils from Monaco met at the Theatre des Variétés to vote for their favourite short film, as members of the Children’s Award jury at the Cinema for Change Festival, supported by the Government of Monaco.
Cinema for Change showcases short films from all over the world in connection with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. For this 12th edition, 9 prizes will be awarded, including three Youth Awards (Children, Schoolchildren and Students) supported by Monaco with a view to raising awareness about development and international solidarity.
Marc Obéron, the founder of the Festival, presented the 5 short films competing for the Children’s Award to 27 classes from the Principality’s 7 schools. The votes from the Principality’s students will be added to those from the other child members of the jury attending school in France and in six partner countries of the Monegasque Cooperation.
Meanwhile students from the first year of Sciences Po Paris, Middle East-Mediterranean campus in Menton, officially opened the Festival’s round of film debates, on Thursday 20th November 2022, with the viewing of three pre-selected films for the Children’s Award and together selected the winner.
This educational activity falls within the scope of a partnership agreement signed in 2014, through which the Office of International Cooperation and the Campus agreed to cooperate with a view to promoting student awareness of issues relating to development and the fight against poverty in the world.
The Cinema for Change Festival award ceremony will be held on Sunday 16th April at the Grand Rex in Paris.
