A ceremony to hand over emergency equipment to the Burkina Faso National Fire Brigade (BNSP) to combat COVID-19 took place on Thursday 28th February 2021 in Ouagadougou.
Presided over by the Burkina Faso Minister for Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Mr Clément Sawadogo, the ceremony reflects the strong partnership that exists between the Governments of Monaco and Burkina Faso.
To cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, from the onset of the crisis the Monaco Fire Brigade offered support to their Burkina Faso counterparts regarding new challenges inherent to the rescue system when providing care to COVID-19 patients by preventing transmission of the virus to the crew.
The equipment delivered on this occasion (masks, goggles, automatic distributors, hydro-alcoholic solution, etc.) by the Honorary Consul of Monaco in Burkina Faso, Mr Seydou Diakite, is aimed at supporting the action of the Burkina Faso Fire Brigade in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This support forms part of the Monegasque Cooperation’s flagship programme “Civil Protection” which is backed by the expertise and technical support of the Monaco Fire Brigade in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and more recently Mali.
This partnership was initiated in 2004 in Burkina Faso, under the impetus of Prince Rainier III, with the donation of an extrication vehicle during the 10th Francophonie Summit in Ouagadougou. Over the years, the partnership has gone from strength to strength, resulting today in political, operational but above all human cooperation. It is within this framework that the Office of Cooperation and BNSP have renewed this long-standing partnership for the period 2020-2023.
