As a reminder, this initiative was launched by the Government of Monaco (Office of International Cooperation), the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (Interministerial Delegation for the Mediterranean and Delegation for relations with civil society and partnerships), in conjunction with ILLIS, a Monegasque international solidarity organisation.

This call for projects is part of the momentum set in motion by the Summit of the Two Shores in June 2019 and forms part of the “Commitments for a new ambition in the Mediterranean” signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the ten 5+5 dialogue states.

The 22 projects selected, set up as a consortium between civil society organisations (OSC) from the Southern shore (Mauritania, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia) and the Northern shore of the Mediterranean (France, Italy, Portugal, Spain), propose innovative and original initiatives for the benefit of youth, with particular focus on gender equality.

The overriding themes among the selected projects include promotion of culture as an engagement tool, development of innovative vocational training, involvement of youth in social and solidarity-based entrepreneurship, and the conservation and enhancement of rural areas. The organisations receiving support are implementing their proposals between September 2021 and September 2022 with the support of the association ILLIS.
