The Government of the Principality of Monaco, through its Department of International Cooperation (DCI), is renewing its partnership with the Moroccan Student Foundation (FME) for the academic year 2016/2017, for the third consecutive time, and thus continues to be responsible for study grants for the most deserving undergradautes from social welfare institutions in the Kingdom of Morocco.

Launched three years ago, this partnership provides financial support for five students, selected by the FME, who are pursuing higher education studies at prestigious universities that are partners of this programme.

In addition to the education grant, which covers the full cost of tuition fees, the FME provides each young person with a maintenance grant to cover his or her living costs and offers personalised support from its staff and voluntary tutors.

The Moroccan Student Foundation and the DCI plan to strengthen their cooperation in the future by setting up grant programmes to help the most vulnerable people (such as people with disabilities, etc.)

Meryem was born in Morocco to a very modest family.  Before taking her Baccalaureate, she lost her grandmother, who had looked after her, and her father died the following year.  She says:

"I was devastated and felt totally crushed and had no hope at all.  The suffering was repeated when I passed my Baccalaureate with honours, as I was afraid I would have to stay at home.

Thanks to the Moroccan Student Foundation (FME), I enrolled at the Mundiapolis University in 2012 and obtained a 2:1 degree, which enabled me to study at the University Law School in Nice.

The EMF took over the role of my parents on a daily basis in a remarkable way.  I was provided with accommodation and food, thanks to a monthly grant, and I received support with my professional life, as well as psychological support that has restored my hope in life. "

Thanks to the support of the Prince's Government, Meryem is currently studying for the law examinations for the Bar of Nice.
