UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha: Monaco reiterates support for vulnerable people

A delegation comprising Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Wilfrid Deri, Head of Mission, took part in the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha (Qatar) from 5 to 9 March 2023. A concept devised 50 years ago by the United Nations, this group of least developed countries today brings together 46 of those facing structural obstacles to development.
The conference drew the attention of member countries to the people living in these nations. With poor resilience to economic and environmental shocks, coordinated international assistance is vital to help these countries unlock their potential and support them on the path to development.
In her speech, Isabelle Rosabrunetto reiterated Monaco’s commitment to the people in these countries, emphasising in particular the support provided to local civil society. She noted the importance of involving young people and women to help achieve sustainable and inclusive prosperity.
The Prince’s Government’s official development assistance (ODA) designates least developed countries as priority beneficiaries of the policy: 70% of ODA is allocated to seven such countries: Niger, Burundi, Mali, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Senegal and Mauritania.
On the margins of the Doha conference, bilateral meetings were held with some of them to discuss current and forthcoming partnerships.
