Over the three days, delegations from the 53 Member States of the WHO European Region, as well as representatives of partner organisations and civil society, met to review the current state of health and well-being in Europe. Participants also discussed the future focus of the activities of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.

This 73rd session was marked by energetic debate on the impact of armed conflict on the health of populations in Ukraine, Israel and Palestine. In this context, Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, appealed for peace, stressing that peace is “the remedy most needed by the region today”.

Several initiatives were submitted to the Regional Committee, including strategies for the health and well-being of women and men; the Declaration of the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health; and the Framework for action on the health and care workforce.

The Monegasque delegation led by H.E. Ms Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, reaffirmed the Prince’s Government’s support for this framework for action, aimed at finding sustainable solutions to the problems encountered by health and care professionals in Europe. In this regard, the Principality also supports a statement by Malta on behalf of the Small Countries Initiative. The Monegasque delegation also intervened in the debate on the governance and leadership of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.
